今年國際翻譯日的主題是A World Without Barriers（無障礙世界），強(qiáng)調(diào)了翻譯工作者在促進(jìn)世界不同文化、不同語言互聯(lián)互通方面發(fā)揮的關(guān)鍵作用。精藝達(dá)翻譯公司從2000年成立以來，始終以促進(jìn)人類溝通為使命，今年，精藝達(dá)翻譯遠(yuǎn)程口譯中心有了新的突破。運(yùn)行三個(gè)月就完成了12萬多分鐘的服務(wù)時(shí)間，幫助數(shù)以千計(jì)的客戶解決醫(yī)療、法庭的語言難題，發(fā)揮著實(shí)現(xiàn)無障礙世界的重要作用，我們很榮幸能為“無障礙世界”貢獻(xiàn)出自己的一點(diǎn)微薄的力量。

國際翻譯日
國際翻譯日由國際翻譯家聯(lián)盟 （International Federation of Translators, 簡稱國際譯聯(lián)，英文簡稱FIT）于1991年提出。國際譯聯(lián)選擇了早期西方《圣經(jīng)》學(xué)家、《圣經(jīng)》拉丁文本的譯者圣杰羅姆（Saint Jerome）的逝世日作為國際翻譯日，因此國際翻譯日又稱圣杰羅姆日（Saint Jerome Day）
]]>This year, six outstanding translation students have joined our company as translation interns, with four of them working in?our Xiamen headquarters，one in our Fuzhou branch office and the last one in our American branch office.
Today, we will be saying goodbye to two of them, who will be returning to school after working for two months with us. This was their very first experience as an English-to-Chinese translator in the workplace.
When Rachel first joined the company and sat at her desk, she was surprised by the quiet yet busy atmosphere at our office, with translators highly concentrated and focused on their work. “Everyone seemed silent, but their minds were loud, buzzing with ideas. I can see how such a peaceful atmosphere allows them to concentrate.” she commented.
She acknowledged her admiration for her project managers, too: “I could often feel how efficient the senior colleagues were in handling projects and their sense of responsibility. I also hope that, in the future, I can also be as reliable with my work. As a prospective graduate at Xiamen University Tan Kah Kee College, I hope to apply the knowledge I have learned at the university level to practical situations to accumulate experience and gain insight.”

Rachel?was deeply impressed by the importance of the proofreading process: “I had to review some shipping documents and insurance policies for a foreign trade company, translated by a senior in-house translator. Don’t underestimate the work that goes into proofreading! This work?helped me learn a lot of professional and authentic expressions?in both languages, as I?learned about how professional the translation abilities?of the in-house translators?were?at MTS.”
In turn, Alexia, an English major from Xiamen University who has just finished her two-month internship with us, thinks that real translation work is very different from the translation courses taught in school. During a brief learning period, where she learned about the strict translation quality standards of ISO9001, Alexia expressed that she feels more prepared to adapt to the workplace in the future.
One of our new interns, Helen, who comes from Xiamen University Tan Kah Kee College, shared how her first few days have gone: “The first days of the internship are mainly for basic training, which includes introduction to translation, editing, proofreading and QA processes, word typesetting skills, and the basics of computer-aided translation. Before, I noticed that many details in formatting usually go unnoticed, and after going through this training, I realized that requirements for translation formatting are quite stringent.”
Mark Waters, an English-Written Translation Master’s student at Xiamen University from the US, is doing his internship with us. He expressed that through this internship he is experiencing the challenges that come with translation work, including the high volume of words requiring translation and proofreading on a daily basis with tight deadlines. But, in spite of that, he is very determined to consider pursuing a career in translation and localization industry.
James, an student at Middlebury Institute of International Studies, who is an intern of American company in 2022. He has excellent language skills and is good at interpreting. During the internship, he was exposed to more fields in the industry, including translation review, document processing and so on. “During my internship, I saw how translation and interpretation work often involves very technical subject matter, which gave me an even deeper respect for this profession.I also enjoyed the friendly culture at MTS. Even though my internship was remote, I felt my colleagues’ warmth and positivity on the other side of the computer screen. ” He said.

2022年美國語言公司協(xié)會(huì)（Association of Language Companies, ALC）第20屆年度峰會(huì)于9月13日至9月15日在拉斯維加斯召開，會(huì)議為期三天，匯集了來自美國和歐洲等地200多名語言服務(wù)和科技公司的高級(jí)管理人員，通過大會(huì)發(fā)言、小組討論、演示和展覽等方式分享知識(shí)，交流經(jīng)驗(yàn)和探討合作。此次會(huì)議的內(nèi)容聚焦于機(jī)器翻譯、盈利能力、與客戶建立信任、行業(yè)標(biāo)準(zhǔn)、管理客戶等方面。

]]>Autumn is the harvest season. As one of the most important festivals in China in Autumn, the Mid-Autumn Festival or Mooncake Festival not only represents reunion, but also happiness and good fortune. In 2022, MTS continued its 22-year tradition, and in the warm night of September 6th, we gathered together to enjoy a generous dinner and games to vent out from the busy work days and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.
MTS is a warm family. More often than not, everyone is busy with work on weekdays and has little time to chitchat and get to know each other outside of conversations regarding translation tasks or interpretation projects. That’s why everyone sat around the round turntables last night, to enjoy a meal together, relax and celebrate. Last night, newly-arrived employees and interns got to socialize and know old employees, which also reflected the loving and cohesive side of our company.
After a good meal with what seemed a non-stop flow of traditional Fujianese and Cantonese food, paired with some Spanish beer and red wine, the highlight of the Mid-Autumn Festival party came, the traditional dice game of Xiamen and neighboring cities: Bobing (博餅)! The clicking sound of dies rolling in the bowl to see who got the top prizes, along with everyone’s cheers and laughter made the end of the night a certainly memorable one. The Bobing activity made everyone forget their usual busyness for a while and enjoy a moment’s happiness.
We are halfway through 2022. Thank you to all employees who contribute to our company’s harvest and growth for your daily efforts! And thanks to our partners, clients and friends in China and abroad for their constant support! We wish you all a happy Mid-Autumn Festival.

Fifty-five contestants from 31 countries shared their unique China stories. These stories were shared on international social media such as Facebook and Instagram and gained widespread attention from overseas media and the public. Stories were then translated into Chinese and released through public social accounts and traditional media in China, which received warm responses and praise. A collection of the stories will be published by Foreign Languages Press soon. 首屆家外之家外國友人中國故事征文大賽已于 2021 年 11 月落下帷幕，來自世界各地 31個(gè)國家的 55 位參賽者分享了屬于他們的獨(dú)特中國故事。這些故事通過Facebook、Instagram等海外社交媒體向全世界傳播，獲得了海外媒體和民眾的廣泛關(guān)注。而后又翻譯成中文在國內(nèi)通過公眾號(hào)和傳統(tǒng)媒體發(fā)布，得到熱烈反響和好評(píng)。2021年的征文作品將由外文出版社結(jié)集出版。
This activity aims to collect China stories by foreigners, show a real, authentic, and comprehensive China to the world, change stereotypes and prejudices about Chinese culture and Chinese people, and enhance understanding and friendship between China and foreign countries. The second edition of the Home Away from Home essay contest will usher in a comprehensive upgrade to encourage more foreign friends to share their unique China stories. Theme and requirements
征文內(nèi)容及要求 The contest’s theme : MY HOME in China Requirement:1) The content of the article needs to include a concise and clear self-introduction at the beginning (name, nationality, occupation, residence time in China) and an introduction about their home country (hometown) at the end of the article. 2) The topic is self-designed, the genre is not limited, and the number of words is 800~1000 words or a similar length of characters in any language! Please include at least three photos of yourself in China or landscapes of the city where you live, taken by yourself. Please send us a Word file and remember to include your WeChat ID and phone number for us to contact you. Your personal data won’t be disclosed without your permission. 3) The 2nd edition of the Home Away from Home Essay Contest encourages participants to submit articles and attach a short video of 2~4 minutes. The video content must be related to the theme in your story. You can show us the city, the food, or your activities there. Please hold your phone horizontally to make the video. Attaching a video is optional, but it will give you a bonus point for the final classification. 4) Submission email: luz@mts-tech.com
The winner of the Internet Popularity Award will be chosen exclusively (100%) from the votes the story gets from social media scoring (explained below).

During the process of collecting works, they will be published on social media. According to the number of social media readings and likes, the works with the highest scores will be selected to win the “Internet Popularity Award” set by the event.
Expert review stage
According to the social media scoring weight of 50% and the expert review scoring weight accounting for 50%, the top 6 will be selected as the event’s first, second, and third prize winning works.

☉ In the selection stage, any form of cheating is prohibited, found cheaters will be disqualified, and we will be sad.
